Trees for Life - FVu3a Grove

Status:Active, open to new members
Group email: Trees for Life - FVu3a Grove group
Venue: Online

Forth Valley u3a invites you to add a tree to our grove located in the Highlands of Scotland. This is a continuous project that allows new trees to be added at any time.

In November 2021 Glasgow hosted COP26 and this event prompted us to fund and start a tree grove in an important rewilding project in Scotland. The Trees for Life project is in Glen Affric near to Fort Augustus. Contributions to our grove are welcome from all, there is no need to be a member of u3a.

Research has shown that for over 800,000 years the concentration of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere has never exceeded 280 parts per million (ppm). When most of us in the u3a movement were born the level was about 310 ppm and in September 2025 it was 424 ppm and still rising. Whilst there is much to be done, one element of reducing CO2 in the atmosphere is to plant trees – lots of them!

Trees for Life have, to date, planted over two million trees and plan to plant millions more. If you’d like to learn more about Trees for Life, there is a short video to introduce what is happening. To view the status of the Forth Valley u3a Grove and to contribute trees clink on this link: Forth Valley u3a Grove.

We welcome any new contribution to our grove which we hope to be a lasting and growing project for all to enjoy. We started with about 70 trees, but this has now grown to 260 trees as of 31 January, 2026.

In addition, from time to time the Group Coordinator emails updates to the group members on the Trees for Life project and other relevant climate related information or events. Please contact Nicoll for more information by clicking on the link at Group email above.
